I started reading The Human Sales Factor by Lance Tyson and thought this was a creative and instructive point about the importance of Enthusiasm, one of my personal core values named in Power Acronym 2: D.R.I.V.E.
One interesting aspect of enthusiasm is the words root and Greek origin entheos which meant “divinely inspired or possessed by a god”.
He makes the point that success in sales requires enthusiasm, and he crafts a Power Acronym off the ending of the word:
Power Acronym 149: I.A.S.M.
I
Am
Sold
Myself
“I Am Sold Myself”.
Such a core principle of sales.
That “divine inspiration” isn't going to smack people in the face and get them to buy what you're selling.
It takes energy to move someone towards making a decision and it's up to you to cultivate it so that you have enough to pour into others.
It's at that point you can actually start the work.
But if you're not sold on your idea, product, service or point of view, how can you expect anyone else to be?
"Enthusiasm is one of the most powerful engines of success. When you do a thing, do it with all your might. Put your whole soul into it. Stamp it with your own personality. Be active, be energetic, be enthusiastic and faithful, and you will accomplish your object. Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm." -Ralph Waldo Emerson
