The fun thing about publishing 96 Power Acronyms on the road to 366 this year is that I'm only 5 away from growth.
Power Acronym 101, 102, 103… and beyond will be outside my comfort zone.
A new arena.
The year will only move faster from here.
I wrote S.P.E.E.D. last year.
It's fun to return to it now as I have recently started a new relationship with speed.
To the speed limit, that is! 😏
It's also out of my comfort zone to share the car because it runs the risk of being perceived as braggadocios, arrogant, ego driven…
But it really just comes down to fear, because I've shared the cars I've driven before.
But because this one is nicer and faster, I should slow my roll?
Let's keep the focus on positive, virtuous personal and professional growth.
Here are my latest thoughts on what S.P.E.E.D. means to me:

Savor
“Amor fati” is the practice of accepting and embracing all aspects of your life. It roughly translates to “love of fate”.
Life is short (see the acronym Y.O.L.O.)
So it's important to remember to savor it.
Riding rollercoasters, sky diving, bull riding, and auto racing are all ways people savor life at high rates of speed.
At what pace do you savor life?
Possibility
Growing up playing with Hot Wheels cars makes having a car like the Supra in my driveway a surreal experience.
It's not a Ferrari, but it's fun!
There was a time I didn't think buying a house was ever going to be possible, until it was.
Or running 4 miles. Or 6. Or a half marathon, until I did.
Take the governor off your mind and believe in yourself.
What if it did work?
What if you CAN?
The possibilities are endless.
Eliminate
If saying yes is an unstoppable force, saying no is an immovable object.
Who wins?
You do, provided you can harness the power of both!
Eliminate the non essential people, places, things, and thoughts from your life.
If it doesn't serve you or put you in a position where you can serve others, remove it from your life.
Give yourself the green light to put a stop to what's holding you back.
Execute
Pedal to the metal.
I've been watching NASCAR races since the Netflix documentary came out and one thing you learn quickly is that drivers are way less likely to wreck when their leading the pack.
Nobody is going to give you the life of your dreams. You have to work for it. Chase it down. Persevere.
Take a pit stop when you need to but the windshield is bigger than the rearview for a reason.
Devour
In his book Eat that Frog! Brian Tracy makes the point that if we want to be productive, we should get right to it.
Mark Twain once said that if the first thing you do each morning is to eat a live frog, you can go through the day with the satisfaction of knowing that it is probably the worst thing that is going to happen to you all day long.
Now that is one interesting inspirational quote.
But don’t worry, you don’t really have to eat a real frog to be successful!
In reality, your “frog” is your biggest, most important task. It is the one you are most likely to procrastinate on if you don’t do something about it.
So, “eat that frog,” is another way of saying that if you have two important tasks before you, start with the biggest, hardest, and most important task first.
Discipline yourself to begin immediately and then to persist until the task is complete before you go on to something else.”
Author Joseph Campbell said something very similar in his book Power of Myth
“The demon that you can swallow gives you its power, and the greater life’s pain, the greater life’s reply.”
Life is not without pain, uncertainty, and constant work. It's best to just get used to it and enjoy the brief moments it doesn't feel that way.
Embrace the S.P.E.E.D. of life and accept the risk, challenge, and self control it takes to keep yourself between the lines and ready to pass and lead the pack when necessary.

Put yourself is sport mode.
