Foundation
24 “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.” - Matthew 7:24-27
A strong foundation provides security.
As Jesus illustrates in the passage above, where we place our trust matters.
Tieing myself to values and principles early in my career has helped shape and develop me into the person I am today.
The Roots and Wings my parents raised me with did as well.
If your foundations are strong, protect them.
If you’re being blown about by the changing tides, drop anchor.
Freedom
If you and I were going to play a game, what would we play?
What if I suggested we play a new game with no rules, no score, and no court?
Doesn’t sound like much of a game, does it?
That’s because even though we’re free to play, it helps to have constraints so we know what we’re playing for.
Games are more fun with a scoreboard and stakes.
Freedom is not the absence of challenge, setback, and failure.
Freedom is the opportunity to carve a path in the constraints you’re given.
As retired Navy Seal Jocko Willink says “Discipline is Freedom”.
Future
Rockets have launch pads.
Racecars have starting lines.
These foundations set the stage for the game that’s being played.
The engines fire, and away they go.
Each on a mission to push the limit, explore the unknown, and bring the future to the present.
This is done through a strong identity and an obsessed commitment to doing what it takes to win.
What are you here to accomplish? Who will you help?
What does your future hold?
