I walked into the office, which seemed to be built from portable buildings in the early 2000’s.
As I made my way back to the decision maker I needed to talk to, I saw this Power Acronym from Jack Canfield hanging on the wall.
I smiled at the thought of how the circumstances that led to this little gem of personal development wisdom being pinned for anyone to see.
Power Acronym 68: E + R = O
Event + Response = Opportunity
Making cold in person sales calls is a skill that creates the most discomfort for me.
I'll do it, I've done it plenty of times, but it can take a ton of time and get you nowhere fast.
It can also be the best way to connect with the person on the other side of the phone and establish a relationship that's mutually beneficial.
The Event
Meeting the gate keeper at the front can lead to more information or total rejection.
The Response
You'll never know what the outcome will be until you walk in, introduce yourself and say what you're there to say.
Opportunity
And that's the magic about it. The unknown is all there is, and while it feels scary, that feeling is just what growth looks like.
The opportunity to learn what works and what doesn't.
The opportunity to get the answer you were looking for.
The opportunity to demonstrate what you can do.
The opportunity to make something happen.
