The ABCDE model is a cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) technique that can help you to identify and change negative thinking patterns. ABCDE can also be used to ensure you recover quickly, and move towards a productive outcome.
The model stands for:
A: Activating event: This is the event that triggers the negative thought or feeling.
B: Belief: This is the negative thought or belief that is triggered by the activating event.
C: Consequence: This is the emotional and behavioral consequence of the negative thought or belief.
D: Dispute: This is the process of challenging the negative thought or belief.
E: Effective new belief: This is the new, more positive belief that replaces the negative thought or belief.
