Toward the end of 2023, I used the 4 Disciplines of Execution framework to lead our strategic meeting for what we were looking to accomplish for 2024.
It’s an excellent framework for getting focused and implementing a plan. This Heroic Philosopher’s Note has a stellar overview of the book. That’s where I was introduced to the Power Acronym and one of the authors Jim Huling, a Heroic luminary.
W.I.G. is discipline #1.
Power Acronym 42: W.I.G.
It’s easy at the start of the year to think about all the things you’re looking to accomplish. After all, there’s so much time ahead of us! And because 2024 is a leap year, we have even “more” time!
If you could only pick one goal, what would it be?
What’s the ONE thing that is more important than all the others?
What is the goal that, when achieved, you could look back and consider 2024 as a breakthrough year?
These are the types of questions Jim Huling and his co-authors ask to get to the Wildly Important Goal.
That’s because the less time we spend trying to figure out how to manage our time to get more done, the more time we have to get that most important thing done.
This process has helped our team find a high-leverage goal that contributes to other aspects of the business that could be goals themselves. This strategic leverage is what 4DX is all about.
Much more to be said about this, but that’s all for now.
Write your W.I.G.!
