Chelsey and I love supporting local businesses and it’s extra special to me when I see one using a an acronym as a tool to reinforce company culture and communicate “how to be” to the community they serve.
Downtown D’lite’s Cafe in Kilgore TX uses S.T.A.F.F. on the back of their shirts and I think it’s a great way to reinforce a bit of subconsious southern hospitality and keep the team focused on what’s important.
Power Acronym 198: S.T.A.F.F.
Smiling
A fundamental of good customer service, regardless if you’re helping people with their order across the counter or over the phone. Smile either way, as it changes the way you speak.
Smiling is a simple gesture that can make a big difference.
Talented
Talent is definted as “natural aptitude or skill” and, although it is always welcomed, isn’t particularly necessary for someone to process an order. If you’ve ever used the grocery self check out or fast food kiosk, you know this.
But it does take talent to help someone feel more comfortable, make the right selection based on their preferences, or decide whether to stick with “the usual” or try the new special.
Able
If talent is natural aptitude or skill, then the quality of being able is having the power and willingness to act on it. Just because someone knows how to do something doesn’t mean they can or will.
Empowering employees to make good decisions to service their customer helps everyone operate more efficiently.
Friendly
In East Texas, you never know who you may be talking to, or who they know. So you best be friendly.
As it turns out, it's also the right thing to do. Especially when someone's paying you to represent their brand or business!
Fun-loving
Closely related to friendliness, fun-loving is an awesome value to see a workplace adopt and a local cafe to exhibit.
Lunch is fun! Making food for people is fun!
Creating a friendly environment of talented, able, friendly people who smile? FUN!
