On Mother's Day I shared M.O.M. so it's only right to celebrate Fathers Day with D.A.D.
What three words embody the meaning and purpose dads have?
What is the call dads must answer?
I am not a father, but decided to make a few guesses based on what my father has shown me throughout his life.
Power Acronym 168: D.A.D.
Dedication
Early mornings starts to working until sundown only to start it all again the following day. Dad continues to wake early and work despite being “retired”.
If he isn’t providing for the family, he's helping a friend or someone in the community, giving himself and his skill to benefit others.
Anchor
That dedication serves as an anchor of stability and strength even in bad circumstances.
Dad is open to different perspectives but has always held strongly to his beliefs and standards.
Because he is anchored to his own beliefs, values, and principles, we can feel steady when the waves come.
Discipline
To close, I want to share an excerpt from Ryan Holiday's book Discipline is Destiny:
“Temperance is not deprivation but command of oneself physically, mentally, spiritually - sanding the best of oneself, even when no one is looking, even when allowed less. It takes courage to live this way - not just because it's hard, but because it sets you apart.”
To the fathers who continue to set themselves apart, have a happy Fathers Day.
