Christmas Eve-Earl: Before it's Too Late
A reminder in the middle of the noise
It’s Christmas Eve-Earl.
That’s the funny name my mom gave December 23rd.
Growing up, I thought it was an actual part of the holiday week.
Not an official holiday.
Just a mom-ism. 😅
I’m writing this while the 6-year-old and 4-year-old we’re keeping for a few days are watching a Christmas movie—post-park, post-lunch, pre-Yesterland Farm.
It’s one of those rare moments during the crescendo of the holiday week that reminds you silence does exist.
I’m grateful for the hundreds of bids for attention since they've been with us.
Questions.
Requests.
Soft-spoken, “Can I tell you something?”
This is Chelsey’s and my second time having these two over for a weekend, and it has only increased the amount of grace and respect I have for parents everywhere.
With no kids of our own, adding two more brains and bellies into our home is a blessing—one that can feel a bit chaotic (in the best way).
Christmas Eve-Earl—the day before the day before the holiday—is the last chance to grab that one forgotten gift, remember the batteries, wrap up whatever work still lingers, and get ready for the big day.
We’re about to head to the next destination on our holiday calendar.
And here’s what I’m keeping in mind—and want to share with you:
You’re the best gift you can bring your family.
Be the present.
Don’t let the getting-ready keep you from experiencing the already-available magic of this season.
Merry Christmas,
Aaron

A few weeks back in a beautiful East Texas evening, my friend Jason and I were talking about books, Philosophy, and all sorts of other things and he brought up Bruce Lee's “Be like water, my friend” quote.
